The effectiveness of video in catching the attention of visitors is great and additionally people are more likely to be excited about the visual and dynamic content included within a video blog over and above the usual text and imagery based blogs.
And of course, the more excited you can make your visitors the more likely they are to tell others about your blog meaning you are likely to see far more traffic than you would expect from the same content in basic text form, which is great if you are trying to make some money from your blogging site. After all the more people who visit the site, the more opportunities to have to sell them on any products that you are promoting which can only be a good thing.
Naturally, while there are plenty of advantages to video blogging there are also some disadvantages which may cause some people to reconsider whether or not it’s the right option for them. Hosting a video blog requires considerably more server space than your average text or photo blog due to the size of the files you will be sharing and it also takes a lot longer to create, process and upload your video files compared to putting up a new post made up primarily of text meaning the overheads involved in maintaining a video blog are going to be higher than for other types of blog.
Additionally, because video files are larger than others it can also take more time for your visitor to be able download and access your videos and in this day and age of instant gratification it can sometimes be hard to convince visitors to stick around to watch your content.
This can be especially critical if you are trying to create a video blog to sell or promote products that you hope your visitors will buy, if you can’t get them to stick around and watch the videos you create it’s going to be very hard to convince them to look at the products or services you want them to see.
So video blogging is a great way to get your message across in some situations and in others it may not be suitable for what you are trying to achieve, so you really need to think hard about what it is you want to do with your blog before you throw your hat into the video blogging ring.
Of course when it’s done right video blogging can be a great way to share content and information with visitors in an interesting way and in some cases it can be even more effective than the standard text blog, you just have to figure out whether or not your content is best served by video blogging or not.
