Another example of taking a broad niche and turning it in to one you can manage to make money in is “running shoes.”  Instead of going for a broad keyword term like this two-word combination, think of something more specific like “New Balance running shoes for men.”  Go for long-tailed keyword terms or those that have three, four, or more words.  You can get some great ideas with many of the keyword tools available today.

Write Often – Content is King!

To get your affiliate marketing business off the ground, write about it!  Add pages to your site; visitors love information that is interesting and helpful, and search engines like sites that are updated often with fresh content.

Write articles and submit them to the top article directories.  You may even want to visit blogs that are relevant to your niche and offer to guest post, as long as you can include a link to your website or blog.  Offer to write articles for other website owners – most of them would welcome new content for their site, and they don’t have to do the writing!

Social Networking

If you already have a Twitter and/or Facebook account, put them to work for you!  If you don’t, join and get involved in the conversation.  Most sites let you create a profile where you can talk about yourself, your hobbies, and your business.  When you interact with other people who are talking about a subject related to your niche, it’s the perfect opportunity to market your business – but don’t spam!  Constantly selling your offer while adding nothing of value to the conversation will turn people off faster than you can say, “Boo.”
