Checklist for On-Page SEO Tags

The checklist given below will help you to ensure that your website has the right SEO tags and your website is well optimized:

Title Tag

As the name suggests, the title tag is the title or heading given to every page of your website. The title tag is one of the most important on-page tags and is the first thing that is displayed in Google rankings.

H1, H2 and H3 Tags

The H tags as they are referred to are vital SEO tags as they tell the search engine what your content or website is about. You must ensure that you use the main keywords in the H tags. You can select tags from H1 to H6, with H6 being the least important.

Page Name

One of the main on-page tags includes the use of keywords in the URLs of your web pages. For e.g. If your website is about online marketing and one of the services that you offer include web design, then the URL for that category must read yourcompany.com/web-design.html. Here the URL consists of the main keyword ‘web design’ which greatly helps in search engine optimization.

Page Load Time

One of the major factors that determine your search engine rankings is the page load time of your website. If your website takes ages to open then search engines are bound to punish you. You must ensure that you compress all the images properly. Heavy images usually lead to increase in page load time.

Length & Quality of Content

Your website must have ample and good quality content to enjoy search engine attention. Every web page must have content of atleast 500 words to ensure that your on-page optimization really takes effect.

Image Names & Alt Tags

Having the right naming convention for the images on the websites is also an important on page feature from the SEO perspective. For users who are unable to see the images, can understand what the image is about by looking at the alt tags. For e.g. If you have images about internet marketing, then the alt tags must be named as “internetmarketing.jpg” instead of “image152imk.jpg”.

Using Bold & Italics for H1 and H2 Tags

Remember to put your main keywords in your H1 and H2 tags in bold or italics. This is to tell the search engine that these are your main keywords and that thus they are important for you.

Link to Internal Pages

You must ensure that all the pages on your website are linked to each other. For e.g. If you have any content about building shopping carts then you can highlight that keyword and with the help of anchor text can direct people to more articles on ecommerce and online shopping solutions within the website.

These are the most critical On-page tags and to ensure that your SEO efforts garner maximum results you must ensure that you execute them to great effect.
