The article concerns the question – How Often Should I Post On My Blog? There is no definitive answer to this question, despite what some experts would have you believe. It all depends on your goals and the time you want to devote to your blog.
The two most common answers to the question about how often to post on a blog are:
- Frequently and on a regular schedule. Many successful bloggers publish posts on a regular basis, often daily or 2-3 times per week. If you are able to keep up this pace, that’s great! The advantage to frequent posting is that your blog will grow faster and your search engine ranking will improve quickly. Let your audience know when you update your blog so they know when to get new content.
- When you have something to say. The thinking with this answer is that it is better to wait until you have a message for your readers than to just post for the sake of posting. The downside to this strategy is posting less frequently will take your blog more time to grow. On the other hand, over time you will develop a reputation for high-quality, thoughtful posts. Blogger Chris Garrett recently wrote about this in his post “How to get 80% of the results with 20% of the content.”
Many bloggers, especially when they have just started their blogs, struggle to publish posts this frequently. If that is the case, strive for at least one new post per week. This will enable you to generate new content (which both readers and search engines look for) on a regular basis, but in a way that is more manageable for you.
To avoid burnout, you can write shorter posts. You can choose a topic to cover in bite-size pieces over the course of a week or month. This way, rather than publishing one massive 900 word post, you can publish three 300 word posts or two 450 word posts.
Whichever option you choose, make sure that you promote your posts in every way you can in order to drive traffic to your site. Link to your blog posts on a regular basis on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and any other social media sites where you have a presence.
How often you post on your blog is up to you. Think about your goals and the time you have available when you determine a posting strategy.
